cebu! (cebu!) cebu! (cebu!) ahcu moo moo achoo moo moo boo hoo moo moo ahcu moo moo achoo moo moo boo hoo moo moo cebu!

Greetings from Cebu! I've been here for two and a half weeks now and I figure it's about time I showed off some pictures of things I've done. For the most part life consists of going from my hotel room to work and back. However, I'm trying to use my weekends well and get out to see the city.
Last weekend I went to the Ayala shopping center, twice. I went on my on on Saturday and then Sunday my coworkers wanted to go, so I joined them again. Other than being a shopping center, they're several yummy looking restaurants and a beautiful garden in the center.
Here's a self portrait showing off the garden.

This fountain is at the mall too. Just a fun water feature.

My favorite discovery so far... Gelatto! The first time I tried mango. It was SO good! I am absolutely loving the mangoes. They're fresh and taste so yummy! I have a mango shake or mango juice any chance I get :)

I've started "collecting" the Starbucks mugs that are specific to the region I'm in. Here's the one for Cebu. Guitars and making custom ones are very popular here. All the souvenir shops I've seen so far have guitars, some real and usable, others just for show.

There's a restaurant on top of our hotel called Blue. I ate there last weekend. It was an amazing meal and a spectacular view. My camera doesn't do the view justice, but the bar had a cool wall feature that I took a picture of :)

I miss my espresso machine at home, but when I was in Manila I found this coffee chain that I love. There's one right next to work, so I have my driver drop me off there before work every day :) I love this place. Not only do they make a really great latte, they have wifi and when I walk in I hear, "Hi Miss Howrey" and they're starting to remember my drink. There's just something about being known and recognized that I like. That, and being the only curly blond haired white person in the shop, I'm easily recognizable ;)

Today our group went out to Lapulapu and had lunch at a fresh seafood restaurant. It was so fresh I saw the crab crawling across the table before it was brought out 30 minutes later, ready for us to eat. Here's a shot of us looking at all the seafood options.

The fish were beautiful! The pink one is a lapu lapu fish, named for the native who killed Magellan after Magellan "discovered" the Philippines.

And here's what the clams looked like cooked. I had one, but admittedly it was a little difficult to enjoy. The squid was the best, since I'm more familiar with it. I did try everything but the seaweed. Crab, Shrimp, Calamari, Clams and clam soup.

And lastly, here's the shrine that we were next to that is supposedly built on the actual place where Magellan was killed.

All in all, it's been a fun trip. Next Saturday I work, but on Sunday we're planning on going to Manila for a day of shopping. Back to Greenhills! I'm excited since I've been there and I know what to expect. Not sure who all is coming with me, but it should be fun! I'll try to keep you posted on the goings on around here.

Crybabies!

Some adults are such crybabies! I've been teaching a new product training class these past few weeks and it's amazing how some people are flat out crybabies when it comes to doing their job. This class has a test at the end, 12 questions. True, some of the questions aren't that great, and there are a few that are wrong, but for the most part, the test is fine. This week I'm working on having those people who didn't pass the first time. They are a bunch of babies! Now granted, there are some great people who know it's a test, know there's not a lot they can do about it and know that I'm just the messanger. However, it's the people who come in griping and grumpling about how they're just stupid tests and they've never passed one before so why worry now that really frusterate me! It's not my decision to test you. I didn't write the test. I didn't decide to make the product work, or not work, the way it's designed. Just...

Home Sick

Right about now I get a little bit "home" sick. No, it's not for my childhood home or where my parents live, though I miss that home too. But today I miss my Mongolian home. For the past two years I've either been there now or headed there soon. Unfortunately, this year, I'm not going and that's sad. I'll readily admit I can see why and I see God's hands in this (especially since I'm going to the Philippines!!!) but still, I miss my Mongolian home. I've been looking at my pictures tonight and thought it'd be appropriate to post some. So, though you may have never been, I hope you enjoy them even half as much as I do! Ulzi and Moogi and their family. They're in the Philippines right now! Our breakfast table... Having fun in the river I'm pretty sure one of the kids was taking this picture... :) Turtle Rock in the background goofing off while playing cards... again, I think the kids were taking this picture. Ruthie's nickna...

Mongolia Part 2

I spent quite a bit of time last night trying to upload some more pictures for all of you, so here they are! The first four is an attempt to show you the view as we saw it from our ger. The fourth picture shows you Lotta and Doljin's ger and the house he's building. Also in that picture are the goat and sheep stalls. This is our shower. May is peeking her head out of the stall. Bimba and the kids loved to help us. Here Bimba is bringing us wood for the fence we built. Isn't he cool in his sunglasses? Kate "The Arm" checking the depth of our post hole. Dani is standing by ready to keep digging with a piece of rebar. Stess and Howard using the posthole diggers we brought. They were a great help until we got to the large rocks a few inches down. It got hot during the day so we worked at night on the fence until it was done. This was probably one of my favorite projects because we were all working on the same thing at once. Bada, one of our translators, worked alongsi...
